Truthfully, I didn't make it one month without a mirror. Not even close. I think I did it for about a week then decided it was more effort than what I was gaining from the discipline/exercise. At least I think so.
Here's what I did gather:
-I look in the mirror just by habit a lot throughout the day. When I go out, I'll do a mirror check to get validation that I look OK/presentable to the world. It was liberating to go out with friends without checking to see what I looked like. I don't think that's something that everyone struggles with or is in the habit of, but I certainly do. So, valuable just to rethink that action.
-There are legitimate uses to the mirror. There is a reason why we have them in bathrooms and throughout our home: they are useful and convenient in a culture where appearances, I think, do serve a purpose. Perhaps that is human nature. Whatever the case, I was struck by the extra time it took to get ready in the morning when no mirror was available. --I was more careful about what I put on because I actually thought about how everything would look together instead of throwing it on, checking it with the mirror, and being done with it. Blindly getting dressed would be another whole exercise.
Whatever the case, it was an interesting exercise for even a week. Below you will find my simple sketches that I did each day.
